SPECIES DESCRIPTION

Species name: Pleurotus djamor

Pink Oysters love the warmer temperatures which make them a fantastic mushroom for home-growers in sub-tropical and tropical climates. This species form stunning pink bouquets of mushrooms.

They will grow on almost anything, they are not fussy about their substrates which makes them perfect for the home-grower and beginner cultivator. Pink Oyster mycelium has a pink colour to it and pink oyster grain spawn will not go fully white like other species so don't worry if you can't see much action on your grains.

While very beautiful, this species doesn't have a long shelf life. Pick early as pink colour will fade as they reach maturity and will go pale once spores have been released. For the pinkest pinks grow on Masters Mix and fruit at 18°C.

This species has a heavy spore load.

PREFERRED SUBSTRATE

Pink Oysters can be grown on a variety of substrates including hardwood sawdust, barley straw, and sugarcane mulch.

For highest yields and heaviest clusters grow on supplemented hardwood sawdust or Masters Mix. Colour will not be as deep when grown on straw or sugarcane mulch.

INCUBATION

Incubation period: 10 - 14 days (depends on substrate). Average incubation period is 10 days.

Incubation temperature: Room temperature between 21 - 27°C. Do not let the substrate temperature exceed 30 °C.

PINNING CONDITIONS

Pinning temperature: 18 - 24°C

Pinning humidity: 90 - 95% relative humidity

FRUITING CONDITIONS

Fruiting temperature:

Range: 18 - 30°C
Ideal:
18 - 24°C

Fruiting humidity: 85 - 90% relative humidity

CO2 concentration: 500 - 800 ppm

Important note: these growing guidelines are drawn from our years of experience as commercial mushroom growers. They are a guide only. We encourage experimentation to discover what works best for your individual conditions.
