MORE INFORMATION
Black bags are ideal for species prone to pre-pinning such as vigorous oyster species, golden enoki and pioppino. By blocking all light during the incubation phase the mycelium can colonise to it's optimum stage before fruiting is triggered, increasing your first flush yields.
We have trialled black bags ourselves with our commercial growers as well as witnessed their use overseas in European and USA farms. There is a significant improvement in yields and pin-sets across many commonly cultivated species.
As long as you're confident in your substrate preparation technique (as you won't be able to see the mycelium growing) black bags are a great way to squeeze extra weight out of your blocks.
We use these very same grow bags in our day-to-day operations here at the Little Acre farm.
They are made from polypropylene, meaning they can withstand high temperatures and pressures. This makes them ideal for use within pressure cookers if needed.
The filter patch on each bag is 0.5 micron and the bag is gusseted so it can stand upright when filled.
SKILL LEVEL: ADVANCED
We don't recommend using Black Bags if you're a beginner or you're not confident in your substrate preparation technique as visual monitoring for contamination is not possible.
We suggest having some clear bags in your batches as indicator bags to help monitor the progress of your mycelium and check for any issues in the substrate.
