WHAT'S INCLUDED

Package contains:

  • 1 - 2kg of chocolate oyster mushroom grain spawn ready and waiting to inoculate bulk substrate.
  • Grain is Australian-grown wheat sterilised at 121°C in an industrial autoclave.
  • Prepared in our purpose-built, high quality cleanrooms and laboratory facility.  

Hint: We use around 250g of grain spawn per 10L bucket of substrate.

Note: Mushroom spawn does not come with instructions.

STORAGE

Chill in the fridge until ready to use. Use within three months for best results.

SHIPPING & DELIVERY

Mycelium is extremely sensitive to temperature changes and transport conditions.

And mushroom grain spawn is alive with mushroom mycelium. That’s why we strongly recommend shipping grain spawn via Express Post.  

Dispatch

We ship orders Monday to Thursday. We do not dispatch grain spawn on Fridays to avoid it being in transit over weekends due to its heat sensitve nature. Any orders placed on Thursday after 12pm or Friday will be dispatched the following Monday.

Please note this applies to all orders, including Express Post shipments.

Click & Collect orders

Pick up your order from the Little Acre warehouse in Geebung, on Brisbane’s northside. Pick up is free - simply select ‘Pick up’ at checkout.

Pick up is available Monday to Friday, between 8:00am - 3:30pm.  

Tracking information

Once your order has been shipped, you’ll receive an email with your tracking link so you can stay up to date with where your order is at.

Delivery times

Delivery times are tricky to provide these days. You’ll be able to check your unique delivery estimate provided by Australia Post via the tracking link in your email with the subject “Your order has been shipped!”.

Growing details

SPECIES DESCRIPTION

Species name: Pleurotus ostreatus 

This variety forms dense, uniform clusters of chocolate coloured oyster mushrooms. They are great for commercial growers as yields are consistent and heavy due to the Chocolate Oyster's dense cluster formation. Pick early when caps are still curled and dark as these little heavy clusters are great for retail punnets.

Chocolate Oysters prefer colder conditions. You will grow deep brown caps and more dense clusters in cooler temperatures. If grown at the warmer end of their range, colour will be lighter.

The Chocolate Oyster is our favourite Oyster variety to eat, we find it has the best flavour and texture of all the Oyster varieties we grow and is quickly becoming a chef favourite as well.

PREFERRED SUBSTRATE

Chocolate Oysters can be grown on a variety of substrates including hardwood sawdust, barley straw, and sugarcane mulch.

For highest yields and heaviest clusters grow on supplemented hardwood sawdust or Masters Mix.

INCUBATION

Incubation period: 14 - 21 days (depends on substrate). Average incubation period is 14 days on Masters' Mix. 

Incubation temperature: Room temperature between 21 - 24°C. Do not let the substrate temperature exceed 30 °C.

PINNING CONDITIONS

Pinning temperature: 10 - 18°C 

Pinning humidity: 95 - 100% relative humidity

FRUITING CONDITIONS

Fruiting temperature:

Range: 10 - 21°C
Ideal:
15 - 19°C

Fruiting humidity: 85 - 90% relative humidity

CO2 concentration: 500 - 800 ppm
