WHAT'S INCLUDED

200g resealable pouch of Agar Agar Powder.

Agar Agar Powder is used to create a medium for culturing mushrooms in petri dishes and test tubes.

This is the same Agar Agar Powder we use in the Little Acre lab. It is extremely high quality at >800g/CM2, which provides a firm agar, perfect for mycelium.

General instructions are included on the package.

We've packaged this up in a resealable pouch for convenience and storage.

INSTRUCTIONS

To make 500m of agar liquid which will pour approximately 20 petri dish plates:

  1. Mix 20g of Agar Agar Powder into 500ml of boiled water. At this stage you can add a nutrient such as Light Malt Extract. Stir to ensure the mix is fully dissolved and homogenous.
  2. Pour the liquid into a jar with a lid. Ensure thjar is appropriate for use in a pressure cooker.
  3. Pressure cook the agar liquid for 30 minutes once it has reached 15 psi.
  4. Let the liquid cool inside the pressure cooker for approximately 30 minutes prior to pouring petri dish plates. Pour plates in front of a laminar flow hood to prevent contamination.

AGAR RECIPES

Suggested recipes (per 500ml water)

Malt Extract Agar (MEA) - low nutrient level used for culture slants and mother plates, long-storage use:

  • 20g Agar Agar Powder
  • 2g Light Malt Extract

Malt Extract Agar plus Peptone (MEA+) - high nutrient level / standard plate media used for quality assurance plates, mycelium transfers agar to agar:

  • 20g Agar Agar Powder
  • 10g Light Malt Extract
  • 1g Soya Peptone

We also supply MEA+ Premix powder for your convenience.
